Dr. Shaji Daniel, Ph.D., LPC, NCC

Associate Professor of Counseling and Christian Ministry

Dr. Shaji Daniel serves as Associate Professor of Counseling and Christian Ministry. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) with extensive experience in counselor education, clinical practice, leadership, and pastoral ministry. His passion is equipping Christian counselors and ministry leaders to integrate biblical truth with professional excellence in counseling and ministry.

Dr. Daniel earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision with a Leadership emphasis from the University of the Cumberlands, Kentucky, and a Master of Education in Professional Counseling from the University of Houston–Victoria, Texas. He also holds a Master of Theology in Missiology and Intercultural Studies from Union Biblical Seminary, along with Bachelor of Divinity and Bachelor of Theology degrees from institutions affiliated with the Senate of Serampore University, India.

His clinical practice integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and spiritually integrated counseling approaches. His areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, stress-related disorders, grief, relationship concerns, marriage counseling, and multicultural counseling. Dr. Daniel is also a Certified SYMBIS Facilitator and has received specialized training in cancer care and grief counseling.

Dr. Daniel's research interests include multicultural counseling, spiritual integration, immigrant mental health, leadership development, and counselor education. His scholarly contributions include publications in Family Relations and other counselor education literature. He has been honored with the Doctoral Award for Excellence in Leadership and Advocacy from the University of the Cumberlands and the Ramaiah Award for Excellence in Scholarship from United Theological College, India.

Dr. T. C. Thomas serves as Assistant Professor of Theology, bringing a strong foundation in biblical scholarship, theological education, and Christian ministry. He is committed to equipping students with a deeper understanding of Scripture and helping them develop a sound theological framework for ministry and Christian leadership.

Dr. Thomas earned a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from Central Christian University. He also holds a Master of Arts in Theology from Luther Rice Seminary and University, Georgia, and a Bachelor of Biblical Studies from Mid-America Christian University, Oklahoma. His theological training began with a Bachelor of Theology from South India Biblical Seminary, India.

His academic interests include biblical interpretation, systematic theology, Christian discipleship, and the application of biblical principles to contemporary ministry contexts. Rev. K. J. Kuriakose serves as Dean of Spiritual Affairs and Professor of Christian Ministry at Houston Bible Seminary. With decades of pastoral leadership, preaching ministry, and theological education experience, he is dedicated to nurturing the spiritual formation and ministerial development of students preparing for Christian service.

Rev. Kuriakose is currently a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) candidate in Pastoral Skills at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Massachusetts. He holds a Master of Theology (M.Th.) in Homiletics from United Theological College, affiliated with the Senate of Serampore University, India. He also earned a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Kashi Vidyapeeth University, Varanasi, India.

Karen Thomas serves as Assistant Professor of Missiology at Houston Bible Seminary. She is passionate about preparing students for effective cross-cultural ministry and global mission engagement through biblically grounded and contextually relevant theological education.

Karen holds a Master of Theology (M.Th.) in Missions from Ebenezer Theological College, accredited by the Asia Theological Association (ATA). She also earned a Bachelor of Christian Studies (B.C.S.) from New College, affiliated with the Senate of Serampore University, India. She is currently pursuing doctoral studies, further strengthening her scholarship and expertise in the field of missiology.

Her academic and ministry interests include world missions, intercultural ministry, mission theology, discipleship, church planting, and leadership development. He combines a strong academic background in science and technology with extensive experience in evangelism, discipleship, and campus ministry.

Dr. Johnson holds a Ph.D. and M.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology, India, and an M.Sc. from the University of Kerala, India. He also earned a Master of Arts in Theology from IPC Theological Seminary, Kottayam, India.

For over 30 years, Dr. Johnson has been actively involved in college campus ministry, investing in the spiritual formation and leadership development of students and young adults. Dr. Kurt Shimada is an educator, ministry leader, and scholar with extensive experience teaching theology, spiritual formation, and Christian ministry in both academic and church settings. He is passionate about helping students develop a deeper understanding of Scripture, the work of the Holy Spirit, and the process of spiritual growth in the Christian life.

Dr. Shimada earned a Ph.D. in Renewal Theology from Regent University, Virginia, where his doctoral research examined the role of the Holy Spirit in the progressive sanctification of believers through the writings of the Puritan theologian John Owen. He also holds both a Master of Divinity and a Master of Christian Ministry from Wayland Baptist University, as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems and Marketing from the University of Hawaii.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Shimada has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in theology, spiritual disciplines, biblical studies, and Christian leadership. His teaching experience includes service with Regent University, Wayland Baptist University, and Pacific Rim Bible College. Raj(esh) is a native of Southern India. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from New Theological College, India (1995); a Master’s in Philosophy and Religion from Madurai University, India (2002); and Master’s in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 2007. Raj also earned a Ph.D. in Systematic Theology and Apologetics from Liberty University in 2023.

Raj has been teaching at HBA and SFBC&TS for a number of years.

In the past, Raj has worked as a staff and Resource Person for Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, India and Probe Ministries International, USA. Raj is a member of ETS and EPS. Raj also is the co-founder of CrossroadsAsia Ministries, a mission organization involved in church-planting, theological education, and compassion ministries in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. Raj makes frequent short-term mission trips to these countries.

Raj is married to Alice and they have two children. Raj enjoys mission trips with family and friends, playing badminton, volley-ball, and engaging in apologetic discussion on his FB group known as Worldview Apologetics and his YouTube Channel (Raj Sebastian).

Dr. Selin Philip bridges rigorous counseling science and deep biblical faith as an Associate Professor and Director of the PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision program at Colorado Christian University. A Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan and a Nationally Certified Counselor, she holds a theology degree from New Theological College in Dehradun, India, and a PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision from Regent University in Virginia. That cross-cultural, interdisciplinary foundation informs her scholarship, which centers on multicultural issues in counseling, faith integration, character development in college students, and wellness and healing among diverse populations. Committed to mental health advocacy, Dr. Philip works to raise awareness within church and ethnic communities by weaving together biblical principles and empirical research.
